GENRE | ARCITYPAL MOE POPE
LABEL | BRICK RECORDS/ ARCLASSIC
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Moe Pope takes on new album-length collaboration with talented on-the-rise producer. After albums with Headnodic and Rain, that’s exactly what he does yet again, this time with The Arcitype, for their debut album as STL GLD (available today), but the result is more than new rhymes over new beats. Compared to his work with Rain, Monday feels like a brighter dawn arriving after a few troubled nights; the glimmer of optimism on the opener “Sunrise” boils over to ecstasy on “Rock Me Pt. 3,” with Moe soaring (“stage dive often, Boston’s only/king at the tippy top, getting kind of lonely”) and swerving around Arcitype’s fireworks display of pianos and drums. Moe still grapples with thorny topics like domestic abuse (“Bastard”) and addiction (“Overdose”), but the robust production allows a bit more sunshine to glitter off this GLD.
